FAQ

What is the Cancellation Policy?
We understand that unanticipated events happen occasionally in everyone’s life. In our desire to be effective and fair to all clients, the following policies are honored:

  1. 24 hour advance notice is required when cancelling an appointment. This allows the opportunity for someone else to schedule an appointment. If you are unable to give us 24 hours advance notice you will be charged the full amount of your appointment.

  2. No-shows. Anyone who either forgets or consciously chooses to forgo their appointment for whatever reason will be considered a “no-show.” They will be charged the full amount for their “missed” appointment.

  3. Late Arrivals. If you arrive late, your session may be shortened in order to accommodate others whose appointments follow yours. Depending upon how late you arrive, your therapist will then determine if there is enough time remaining to start a treatment. Regardless of the length of the treatment actually given, you will be responsible for the “full” session. Out of respect and consideration to your therapist and other customers, please plan accordingly and be on time.

What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?

Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, reduce blood pressure, promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being, soothe sore muscles, relax tension, reduce pain, improve mood and looks , calm the mind and soul, help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve your posture, alleviate altitude sickness, relieve soreness and stiffness, enhance performance, flush lactic acid and other metabolic waste, improve immune system's functioning, expedite post-injury or surgery rehabilitation,  etc.

Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?
Your massage or bodywork session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.

Will I be covered during the session?
You will be professionally draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.

What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck and shoulders. You may request abdominal work or specific work.

What should I do during the massage or bodywork session?
Prior to the massage, feel free to ask the practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.

How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.

How often should one get a massage ?

It depends, as always, because we are all different. If you get a massage once a year, it will be relaxing, but it can't undo a lifetime of muscle tension. Typically, once every week or two is ideal for keeping your muscle tissue pliable and in good shape, even once a month, if regular, should bring some positive lasting effects. Please talk to your therapist during or after your session about this because they will know more at this point of what might suit you best. Regularity and commitment do help, so you may want to schedule your massage ahead of time as life always gets in otherwise. Taking care of you is very important and only you have full control of it.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.

What kind of pressure does a massage use ?

PRESSURE comes in three forms, light, medium and deep. Pressure can be alternated throughout the massage, giving deeper pressure where needed and lighter pressure where wanted.

  • Light pressure is similar to applying lotion to your skin. Light pressure is very relaxing and effective at "waking up" the lymphatic system and increasing blood flow.

  • Medium pressure is a bit deeper. Medium pressure gets into the superficial muscle layers.

  • Deep pressure is often called deep tissue. Deep pressure gets into the deeper muscles, causes changes in the fascia, or connective tissue. Deep pressure can leave you feeling a bit sore a day or two after the massage. Deep pressure may be painful at the time of the massage, but should NOT be unbearable. If the tissues are warmed up properly, deep tissue can be very relaxing as well as effective on the muscles and their surrounding connective tissue.

Do you use Essential Oils ?

Yes, MOST OF OUR SESSIONS include complimentary aromatherapy.

AROMATHERAPY dates back to at least 7000 BC where it was believed that aromatic plants were combined with oils to create the original Neolithic ointments.  Research has shown that particular essential oils have healing benefits when applied to the skin to be infiltrated into our blood stream through tiny capillaries, and via olfaction (sense of smell).

What are Energy Therapies?

Energy therapies are alternative therapies that aim to create a state of balance, health and peace in a person. An underlying theory to energy therapies involves energy blockages or imbalances that lead to illness and disease, but can be also applied to elevate one's energy levels if already feeling great and complete. Some of the modalities we offer allow for reaching and connecting the highest and purest energies which can then influence the receiver the best way, often bypassing human logic and common understanding.

Please refer to section Energy Therapies for more info.
